Who missed The Memo!?
Every now and again, you run across something that makes you stop and take note. On this occasion I stopped, stared, and kept going, then circled around and came back to take a picture. I just had to, couldn’t stop myself.
Apparently someone didn’t get the memo that we were expecting our first hard freeze over the weekend and decided to leave their sprinkler system on. May have burst, may have not, but the interesting part is what happened to the trees…
Hopefully they get it together, stop wasting water, and save their sprinkler system. Otherwise I guess I’ll just look forward to viewing living art throughout the Winter.
The Reality of Summer Ending
As the end of summer slowly approaches, I can’t help but feel sadness that the weather is going to change, and riding days are going to become fewer and fewer. As it stands now, I’m able to get out on the bike just about any day I like. Traffic’s never really too bad down here in the Springs, if it starts raining really hard, you can stop for coffee and the storm will have passed by the time you’re ready to roll, and except for the occasional driver not paying much attention, unless you’re being an ass, most people give you your space on the road – High-Beams and helmeted stares help.
I can’t help but feel the sadness of saying to a friend, I’ll see you when I can, since we do get some rideable days during the Winter, but with all kinds of trash on the road – gravel, but I’ll have to be parking the Gixxer soon. Hmm… there’s always the prayers for a late and short Winter.
On the other hand, CJ’s 1st soccer practice is coming up and his season will start in a week or two, the incredible USC Trojans will be making another run at a championship – fingers crossed, the Raiders might do better than just split games with the Broncos, and hopefully the Rockies will hang tough and get into the playoffs. Not to mention work will probably heat up with plenty of challenges to make the time pass, and then there’s the cozy time with loved ones and friends. Not too bad I guess. Maybe I’ll even get out and snowboard, though I really won’t know what to do without hard-pack, slush, and ice.
Well, I’ll keep riding until the weather requires that I start wearing the liner for my jacket during the day, and start transitioning into Fall / Winter mode as warranted. Being a So Cal native, I admit that it was nice to have relative warmth during the Winter, but I know it’ll be nice to see the snow again here, and get a car that I can actually drive comfortably in it.
For the moment, I’ll keep the shiny side up, cheer on my lil’ man’s soccer team, watch SC stomp all comers, hang with my peeps, and enjoy what’s left of the warmth. First snow is usually Halloween, but as I said, I’m hoping…
