The Bishop Castle
He’s a… bit eccentric, some would say looney, with anti-government rants and raves, but obviously very dedicated to his work/art. He doesn’t charge visitors, the place never closes he says, though there’s a sign that says ‘Closed After Dark’ or something like that, and he’s there working almost daily over the summer.
To experience the place is something in and of itself. Some of the heights and lookouts are very unnerving to say the least. Imagine being at the top of a tower, with nothing holding you up but creaking, yet apparently stable, iron work. Trusting your life to an eccentric, non-engineer, building his own castle, to no particular code. What if he decided to take a ’short-cut’ one day, in some small part of his workmanship!? Well from what I can see, he hasn’t. Tons of visitors, even from overseas, travel to see his castle. It truly is amazing, and if you’re ever in the Southern CO area, you should definitely check it out.
Sunday Drivers, er… Riders.
Rolled out with The Shea’s, my road dawg Christian, and Lilly on Sunday for a good time on bikes, the motorized kind. Got to put about 100 miles on the gixxer which was a good time and have some good company while doing it.
We took off up to a little town named Kiowa and had a smashing breakfast. We stood around bullshiting and taking pics, since everyone is on FB, for a bit after the fact, and vacated right before a parade started and blocked us in.
Cool spot, I’ll be back.
Next week, plan is for Bishop’s Castle. We’ll see if the weather holds. Keep the shiny side up.
