The Bishop Castle

 No, this isn’t a chess manuever, what it is, is an amazing creation by the hands of man.  A single man, I believe that his sons helped some, but without any heavy equipment, and 41 years of hard work.  Oh, and no he’s not rich, he works 3 seasons a year down in Pueblo, CO doing wrought iron work.

He’s a… bit eccentric, some would say looney, with anti-government rants and raves, but obviously very dedicated to his work/art.  He doesn’t charge visitors, the place never closes he says, though there’s a sign that says ‘Closed After Dark’ or something like that, and he’s there working almost daily over the summer.

To experience the place is something in and of itself.  Some of the heights and lookouts are very unnerving to say the least.  Imagine being at the top of a tower, with nothing holding you up but creaking, yet apparently stable, iron work.  Trusting your life to an eccentric, non-engineer, building his own castle, to no particular code.  What if he decided to take a ’short-cut’ one day, in some small part of his workmanship!?  Well from what I can see, he hasn’t.  Tons of visitors, even from overseas, travel to see his castle.  It truly is amazing, and if you’re ever in the Southern CO area, you should definitely check it out.
