We Embarrass Ourselves

The political landscape of our country has allowed us to continually embarrass ourselves both internally and to the rest of the world.  Instead of having consummate professionals serving as our political leaders, it is becoming more and more apparent that our leaders are starting to mimic Hollywood and are not looking out for the best interests of those they represent.  Worse than that, they are not even representing themselves well.

We have a whole party, one of our two major and electable parties in shambles, and consistently dropping further into the void.  The Republican party, which I am a registered member of, nomiating Sarah Palin as the Vice Presidency???  Ok, I do not personally know the woman, nor do I assume that her presentation to the world is a good representation of who she is, but based on her presentation, she does not come across as charismatic, intelligent, or well versed on any issues with the exception of “conservative family values.”  Is the media the cause of this?

We have multiple representatives of the ‘conservative’ party not being true to their commitments.  We have a president that at least on one occasion has made a snap judgement, his statement in support of his friend without knowing all the facts.  We have a congressman speaking ‘out of place’ during a nationally televised presidential address.  Oh and by the way, was he removed from the forum as John Q. Public would have been?  Pardon my language but that’s bullshit!  Our representatives consider themselves to be above us, so how can they represent us, the populous of this country???  Any Republican or Republican politician that says, “President Obama is not behaving very presidentially,” needs to look at the example that their own party is setting.

I can only imagine how the rest of the world views us, but no matter who’s in office, it can’t be good.  At some point, we should be getting in line and marching, but that point never comes and there can never be any change or accomplishment due to that fact.  If the government was a private business, it would either be out of business, or have fired 90% of the director and executive level employees.  Would any business owner hire Sarah Palin to run their business?  Personally, I wouldn’t even consider her.  I however would consider John McCain, Barack Obama, or Joe Biden, and that’s why I voted the way I did.  With the choices that were available, there’s no way in hell that I’d vote for Sarah Palin to represent me.

Too many chefs spoil the broth, and in the case of our federal government, too many politicians are dragging this country into the toilet, and we are letting them do it.

When will we force our politicians to not only be accountable to us, but to represent us accurately.  Maybe part of it is the branding the parties have established for themselves.  Honestly, I look at the party logos and I think, “ok, do I want to be an ass, or an elephant?”  Frankly, the elephant, from a pure branding perspective, is much better, but apparently our elephant can never muster to strength and will to get moving into a charge.

To the politicians, I ask that you represent yourselves with the professionalism and composure that you expect from the populous, because if we begin to follow your example… let’s just say, I don’t want to be surrounded by ignorant judgmental hotheads all the time, who have trouble focusing on a single topic of discussion.  I also ask that you do the job that “We The People” have hired you and are paying a handsome wage to do.  We hired you, and at some point you’re going to piss us off enough to fire you.

I’m tired of voting in a 2-party system that seems to be dwindling into a single-party system, and I’m tired of voting for the lesser to two ‘evils’.

I know this may be a scattered and ranting post, but I believe it is reflective of the scattered ranting that seems to permeate our politicians, media, and high levels of government.
