Really??? REally, Really!
This is the beauty of having a clear conscience and little to no responsibility in the world.
You can fall asleep, anywhere you want, whenever you want, in any position you want, and even defy gravity while doing it. You can’t even say or spell the word insomnia, and even if you could, you’d have no idea of what it truly meant.
Oh to be a child again…
Who missed The Memo!?
Every now and again, you run across something that makes you stop and take note. On this occasion I stopped, stared, and kept going, then circled around and came back to take a picture. I just had to, couldn’t stop myself.
Apparently someone didn’t get the memo that we were expecting our first hard freeze over the weekend and decided to leave their sprinkler system on. May have burst, may have not, but the interesting part is what happened to the trees…
Hopefully they get it together, stop wasting water, and save their sprinkler system. Otherwise I guess I’ll just look forward to viewing living art throughout the Winter.
Obsession Satisfied!
So here’s the completed version. I waited a while to post this entry but I actually got this done in about a week’s time.
One thousand pieces put away, glued, and ready to be framed.
Now to just figure out how to frame it, where to hang it, and whether to go with glass in front or not. I’m leaning toward the non-glare glass, since as you can tell by the photo, the glare on this thing can be immense.
Next challenge???
That 2000 piece puzzle. I’ll post a picture of that, and hopefully won’t finish it nearly as fast since I am planning on getting some sleep while it’s still out. HAH!
That’ll probably be after Intaglio class…
My Latest Obsession
Welcome to my latest obsession. It’s an Italian scene that I would love to just be able to walk into.
I was at Hobby Lobby the other day picking up some art supplies for the Intaglio Printmaking class I just started, which will be another blog entry in and of itself, and I made the mistake of walking by the puzzles.
I tried to go crazy but was reigned in and walked out with only 2.
This one, a 1000 piece Cobble Hill I decided to tackle as a warm up to the 2000 piece alternate that I got. I haven’t done a puzzle in years but thought it would be good fun and maybe even therapeutic. Well it’s the opposite of therapeutic since now I’m obsessed with getting it done. I can’t walk by the table without trying to place a piece, and my typical veg out in front of the TV evenings have been delayed.
This is after 3 nights worth of work. Ellie, thanks for the help on the 1st night.
So yes, I spent my Friday night hovering over a puzzle and drinking a few beers, one of which I wasted since I was so engrossed in the puzzle that I forgot I even had a beer, yes, that’s a man crime. 3 AM rolls around and I couldn’t drag myself away until 3:15. HAH.
Oh well, I’ll post a pic of the finished product when I get there. Soon I hope, I need some sleep!
College Football Should Be Played On Mondays
Why, you ask? Keep reading.
Wow. All I can say is, my boys need help at the QB position, and I guess I can mention the horrendous turnovers, but I’ll stick with saying that losing to a lackluster Huskies team this year is more than just the major upset that it was made out to be.
Listening to the announcers, you’d think the Huskies will be ranked next week. They won’t. As a matter of fact, if the Trojans have to stand on Corp’s back, we may not even be ranked next week… well maybe somewhere in the top 25. The Huskies didn’t play all that well, we just blew it, BIG TIME!
How many trips to the red-zone with nothing to show for it? A few of them we actually did have something to show for it and it was a tick in the turnover column. Okay, more than a few. WTF happened? Who showed up to play? Credit again to the defense though. The fact that we were still in the game was a testament to play calling, hard hitting, and just plain old… hell you get the picture.
I’ll just end by saying, with the lackluster performance of the offense over the last few weeks, I’m a bit scared of what the rest of the season will bring. I’ll still be there though, wearing Cardinal and Gold, flying the flag, talking shit, and hoping this will be yet another one loss season, and yet another Pac-10 Championship. If we are going to lose just one game this season, at least it’s to a team that really doesn’t stand a chance of taking the Pac-10. Bwaahahahah.
Anyway… time to drown my sorrows in a few pints of Alaskan Amber. Time to drink away that game, and gargle with Drano to get the taste of that game out of my mouth.
I’m really starting to think that college football should happen on Monday. It’d be something to look forward to on an otherwise crappy day, wouldn’t ruin Saturday nights if you lose, and well… Mondays typically suck anyway.
Let’s do better next game… er… much better!
USC TROJANS! Fight On!
PS. I feel like I need a pic of a Jolly Roger to add to this post, but I’ll refrain. Speaking of Jolly Rogers, with the way today went, maybe the Raiders will have a stellar day this week.
Kempo For My Lil’ Guy
This week I signed CJ up for Kempo Karate. I think it’ll be great for teaching him respect for both self and others, not that he isn’t a good kid, discipline, give him a strong sense of self accomplishment, and teach him how to defend himself. We’ll see how it goes… maybe I’ll sign up too, since it beats the hell out of trying to stay motivated to go to the gym.
Good luck CJ, maybe we’ll make it a father and son thing.
Growing Grass
Firstly I’d like to say, no it’s NOT that kind of grass.
After successfully nurturing a bamboo plant that is now almost out of control, I was in Lowe’s the other day with Ellie, and we had talked about trying to grow grass indoors. We talked to one of the knowledgeable employees about what kind of seed to try to use to grow it and looked around at the various products.
This is my first serious attempt at exercising a green thumb, as I’ve heard it’s actually really hard to kill bamboo, and finding out if my thumb is both literally and figuratively ‘brown’. Hah. I also decided to go a bit further and pick up my first 2 plants for my place, and a couple of grow kits – Cilantro and Peppers, both I cook with regularly.
So far so good. The grass is growing tall as you can see from the picture above and the peppers and cilantro have sprouted. Again, this is all indoors, so we’ll see how it goes. With Fall/Winter coming up, planting outside isn’t really an option.
I’ll post again with pics of the final products if I’m successful.

We Embarrass Ourselves
The political landscape of our country has allowed us to continually embarrass ourselves both internally and to the rest of the world. Instead of having consummate professionals serving as our political leaders, it is becoming more and more apparent that our leaders are starting to mimic Hollywood and are not looking out for the best interests of those they represent. Worse than that, they are not even representing themselves well.
We have a whole party, one of our two major and electable parties in shambles, and consistently dropping further into the void. The Republican party, which I am a registered member of, nomiating Sarah Palin as the Vice Presidency??? Ok, I do not personally know the woman, nor do I assume that her presentation to the world is a good representation of who she is, but based on her presentation, she does not come across as charismatic, intelligent, or well versed on any issues with the exception of “conservative family values.” Is the media the cause of this?
Trojans are Rollin’
It’s no secret to anyone that knows me that I’m excited about this season and what the USC Trojans are capable of doing. Saturday’s game against SJSU, yes it was expected, should have been, and WAS a blow-out, was an impressive showing considering how many people the team lost from last year. The defensive giants that made the Trojans a dominant powerhouse for the last few years have moved on and left Brian Cushing as the veteran to bring up the ranks. The fact that SJSU only scored 3 pts makes this a great start to the season.
The offense was slow getting out of the blocks with no points in the 1st Quarter, but 28 in the 2nd.
I think this has the makings of being a great year!
With teams like TOSU (The Ohio State University) barely squeaking by Navy, I didn’t see the game but that’s what the scoreboard looked like, and higher ranked Oklahoma University losing to a very strong looking BYU, I’m just thinking if SC can keep from dumping a game to Oregon State, we’ve got a good shot at a championship.
I’m keeping two fingers crossed on my left hand and throwing up the ‘V’ with the right!
FIGHT ON!
